MENSTRUAL PROBLEMS
Menstrual problems can include endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, irregular cycles and painful periods. Chinese Medicine is used to treat these gynecological problems by restoring energetic imbalances in the body. Symptoms commonly accepted as "normal" in the West such as abdominal cramping and irritability, are a signs of organ imbalances according to Chinese Medicine.
In a culture that consumes many cold temperature foods such as ice cream and iced drinks, what is referred to in Chinese Medicine as "Cold in the Womb" is frequently encountered among our patients. Cold foods and drinks will reduce Qi and blood circulation to the reproductive organs to cause pain and irregular cycles, and in severe cases they will congeal the blood to form fibroids and cysts.
Proper lifestyle during periods is the number one key for women to preserve their health for the rest of their life. When dietary and lifestyle changes are not enough to treat menstrual problems, acupuncture, moxibustion, herbs and abdominal massage can be prescribed. For women who plan on having children, receiving proper care for menstrual problems and maintaining good reproductive health is crucial to avoiding challenges in conception and pregnancy.
