DIET AND NUTRITION
With all the diet fads and nutrition crazes, how do you know which method is the right one for you? When it comes to diet and nutrition, the one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work. So what about a nutritional plan that is based entirely on your genetic background, lifestyle and body type? There are many harmful mythologies about nutrition in the mainstream media. Many proponents of fad diets have based their dietary theories on either scientifically unsound studies, or have misinterpreted studies to suit their ideas. Chinese Medicine has been practiced for thousands of years in Asia. Most Americans have heard of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs, but few are familiar with the nutritional therapy that arises out of Chinese Medicine. The basic principle is to identify your body type according to Yin/Yang and Five Elements and factor in the seasonal changes and your lifestyle patterns.
The flavor and thermal nature of food affect the metabolic function of the body. The key to Chinese nutritional therapy is to understand that each food and drink has its own unique energetic properties. Traditionally in China, food was the first line of defense in any disease before other medicines were prescribed. Using food wisely at appropriate times not only helps the body to be fit, it can also treat and prevent diseases. Selecting the right food to consume is only one aspect of Chinese nutrition. How and when to eat/drink is just as important for your health. The first step in Taoist eating is to smile, be present and enjoy your food! Eating the right foods at the right times is the key to a healthy body.
