BREAST AWARENESS
Lumps in the breast are very common. It is estimated that 50% of all women will experience a cyst at one time or another in their life. Fibrocystic breast disease is most common among women aged 40-50. Between the ages of 20-25, fibroadenoma is a common breast condition. In Western medicine, the most important distinction in breast lumps is if they are benign or malignant.
According to Chinese Medicine, multiple channels pass through the breasts. A pathology in any of the channels and their associated organs could produce different types of palpable masses in the breasts. Frequently, the Liver is overwhelmed with stress, environmental pollution and poor diet. Initially when the Liver Qi becomes stagnated, a woman can experience pain or distention in the breasts, particularly before periods. When the condition worsens, both Qi and Blood stagnate and palpable lumps form in the breasts. Breast cancer is considered a severe case of Qi and Blood stagnation with accumulated toxins. With proper rest, diet, exercise and preventive treatment, we can minimize the risk of developing breast cancer. The combination of acupuncture, Chinese herbs and Qi Gong breast exercises effectively clear away the obstructions of the energy channels that reach the breasts. In Chinese Medicine, the breasts are also known to influence the hormonal balance of the entire body. Thus, appropriate breast care is an important part of a woman's health and quality of life.
